Italian Regions: Veneto

Veneto is a northeastern Italian region stretching from the Dolomites to the Adriatic Sea and is the fourth most populous region in Italy. Its capital, Venice, is famed for its canals, Gothic architecture, and extravagant Carnival celebrations. While Venice is likely the most famous city in Veneto, Verona is the largest and the famous setting of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet." Veneto was part of the powerful Venetian Republic for more than 1,000 years, between the 7th and 18th centuries.
