Meet Ferrari Sparkling Wines

ferrari vineyards

Since 1902, Ferrari has been Italy's number one toast and premier metodo classico sparkling wine producer. The award-winning winery was founded by Giulio Ferrari, where he realized that the northern Italian region had the perfect climate for producing sparkling wines.

From those first few bottles to today’s expansive selection, Ferrari has been in the international spotlight, receiving many major international accolades, including this year's "Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year" award in the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. Discover the story behind this esteemed winery!

THE ESTATE

Located in the very north of Italy, Trentino is a mountainous region with porous, mineral soil that both retains the heat from the daily sunshine and also aids the vines in cooling during the night. Thanks to these conditions, the grapes grow to be quite flavorful and fragrant, and many wines produced in the area have an acidic, mineral profile and age gracefully.

It is among the craggy Alps and ideal microclimates that Giulio Ferrari set down roots, which he then passed on to the Lunelli family; the Lunelli has since kept the Ferrari dream alive and thriving for three generations.  More than three-quarters of the wine produced in the region is classified as DOC, including Ferrari's wines.

THE VINEYARD

As the saying goes, the art of making Ferrari wines can't be learned, it has to be cultivated. A true pioneer, Giulio Ferrari dreamed of creating a sparkling wine that could compete with the best – and his hunch that the terroir of Trentino would make for a fine sparkling wine paid off.  To date, the Ferrari vineyard remains the largest zone planted with Chardonnay in Italy.

Today, the Ferrari vineyards are some of the most technologically innovative in Italy, creating their signature Trentodoc spumante wines using grapes from the region and according to the metodo classico, or classic method (in fact, it was the first DOC in Italy devoted to this production method). Moreover, the winery has never lost sight of their respect for nature and their land: all Ferrari vineyards are organic-certified and use sustainable viticulture practices, with a constant eye towards protecting the unique biodiversity of the region.

THE WINES

Starting with this year's winner, Ferrari Brut is a must-sip introduction to the world of Trentodoc. Made with 100% Chardonnay grapes, harvested by hand in late August and early September, this bollicine boasts a lively, straw yellow color, a fresh and fruity nose, and a harmonious, well-balanced palate.

For a festive pop of color, try the Ferrari Brut Rosé, made with Pinot Nero and Chardonnay grapes. With a copper hue and fine perlage, this delicate sparkling wine offers hints of wild strawberries and a dry palate.

With wines this elegant, it's no wonder that Ferrari continues to be named the Official Sparkling Wine of the Emmy Awards year after year!
